The national and global infrastructure are being transformed by so-called “smart” technologies which allow our society to be more agile, responsive, and efficient. This interconnectedness is incredibly powerful despite the systemic risk of collapse or manipulation that it introduces.
By 2023, there are expected to be more than 13.7 billion Internet of things (IoT) devices deployed globally, according to predictions by Cisco, which can be used for remote monitoring and other tasks by utilities, aviation systems, local and federal governments, waste management systems, and the agriculture community, among others.
Security risks associated with these connected, “smart” technologies cannot be understated. That’s why we’re working in a systematic way to encourage more responsible, adaptive security protections to ensure the safety of our infrastructure and the public.
